What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic acupuncture, also called Facial Acupuncture, is acupuncture performed for cosmetic purposes. As a much safer and healthier alternative to Botox or filler, cosmetic acupuncture allows the skin to regain lost collagen and elastin within the surface layers of dermis, which can lead to the diminishing of fine lines and wrinkles across the face and neck. With repeat treatments over several weeks, skin glows brighter, circulation improves, and the overall appearance of the individual’s skin is smoother and younger.  Continued treatments will often lead to the softening of deeper wrinkles, reduction of acne and/or acne scarring, and the evening of skin tone and texture. Visibly reduced signs of aging and youthfulness are typically noticeable after even one session, although multiple sessions will create longer-lasting effects. Cosmetic acupuncture is available both in the comfort and privacy of a private room, or in a group setting for a more economical price point. 

How is Cosmetic Acupuncture done?

For cosmetic acupuncture, we use special, super-fine needles (even thinner than the ones we use for a typical acupuncture session), which are then additionally silicon-coated to make the insertion even more painless. We gently place the needles into specific points across the face and neck, and retain the needles for about 20-25 minutes. We’ll also include body points to boost immunity, and address any other issues the patient may draw attention to, making a cosmetic session work double-duty in terms of treatment power. Once the needles are removed, we use gentle tonics, essential oils applied with a jade gua sha (massage) roller, and fine misting sprays to soothe and smooth the treated skin. 

How many Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments are needed?

Though patients may see results from as few as one treatment, the effects of treatment likely won’t be as dramatic, and the effects typically won’t last as long as from a standard course of treatment. A standard course of cosmetic acupuncture is typically 10 treatments over the course of 5-10 weeks. In the days between treatments, the patient’s body will repair the microtrauma created by the needles by producing more collagen and elastin, which creates the effect of reduced lines and wrinkles. Receiving treatments no more than 1 week apart is essential to creating longer-lasting and noticeable effects. After the initial course of treatments, a shorter, maintenance course of treatment may be booked every 6-12 weeks, depending on the patient’s individual characteristics. 

Who can receive Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is natural, safe and effective for most individuals, with virtually no adverse effects! However, individuals who are pregnant, or who have received Botox therapy 6 weeks ago or less may want to delay treatment. Additionally, patients who suffer from chronic migraines or headaches may not be the best candidates for Cosmetic Acupuncture.
