Wellness coaching is a way to liberate yourself from the burden of having to figure out everything all by yourself when faced with the sometimes daunting task of restructuring and elevating your quality of life. When it comes to changing your life in a sustainable and meaningful way requires creating new neuro-pathways, and also releasing the old neuro-pathways that no longer suit you. Wellness coaches deal with neuroplasticity a lot, in this way. Neuroplasticity, also known as brain plasticity, is the brain’s ability  to change continuously throughout an individual’s life. It is the “muscle-building” part of the bran. It has been developed  through evolutionary transitions, and it is something that gets harder to do we age. This is why children are better at completely neuroplasticity tasks, such as learning a new language.
 
Sustainable change takes about 3-6 months. Ideally, working with your health coach would be on a bi-monthly basis so that you can touch base and see how the changes you have decided to make are coming along. The brain loves the path of least resistance, which means we will continue to gravitate towards our habits and the pathways we have formed, much like the grooves that can be formed in a well-traveled dirt road. In order to smooth out the dirt roads, the city sends in a truck pulling a grater, which will “rake” the road and start to level out the grooves. However, for the deeper, more well-formed grooves, one pass won’t be enough. The road must be grated over and over again, until the road is smooth. This analogy shows that meaningful change takes time. 
 
Working directly with a coach in order to facilitate robust, sustainable behavior change is a way to both empower, as well as challenge yourself to expand your inner wisdom, establish core values, and revolutionize your goals into measurable action.
